All SSMS Athletes must have the following information completed before participation:

Physical Information:

Student athletes may schedule an appointment at the clinic.

Where: SSSD Onsite Medical Clinic located on 8th Street between Pine St. and Aspen St  (Southwest corner of the gym housing the Boys’ and Girls’ Club)

When: By Appointment during regular clinic hours

Contact:  Call 871-3180 during these days/times to make an appointment

  • Monday:  11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday:  10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Thursday:  10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m

Cost:  $30.00

This fee will be donated to the Booster Club to support SSSD athletic programs.

  • EXACT cash or check only at time of physical (No change will be on site and no credit cards accepted)

Impact testing:
Impact testing is mandatory for athletes in the following sports:
  • Basketball
  • Football
  • Wrestling
  • Cheerleading
The test is good for two years. Current 8th graders who were tested last year are good to go. New 8th graders and all 7th grade athletes may condition but must have the testing before contact.  Parents should call SportsMed at 871-2372 to make an appointment. Testing cost is $15 and payment can be made by cash (exact amount) or check.

 
District Activity Pass:
The district activity pass that includes both SSMS and SSHS sporting events (with the exception of playoff games). The cost is $60 for adults and $35 for students.

Impact Testing

Impact testing is mandatory for athletes in the sports listed below and recommended for all others.

Basketball
Football
Wrestling
Cheerleading

Sports Med will be conducting Group Impact tests at the Steamboat Springs High School for Middle School students on the following days:

Tuesday, October 9 at 4:30pm

Parents must call SportsMed / Fred Manning's voicemail at 871-2372 to make an appointment.  Parents must leave the following information on the voicemail:  athlete's name, sport, parent's phone number and test date they are signing up for.  Test cost is $15 and payment can be made by cash (exact amount) or by check (payable to UCHealth).  Parents will need to attend the start of the test with their child.

Impact Tests will be given at the Steamboat Springs High School in room 101.  Group testing will NOT be at SSMS.





SSMS Nordic Information

  • Nordic program will run from December 10 through February 7.
  • Parent info night December 4 at 5:30-6:30 pm at the Middle School cafeteria.
  • We ski at Howelsen Hill Nordic Center 4 pm – 5:30 pm; Mon-Thur every week except Dec 24th and New Year’s week.
  • In the event that Howelsen is not open by December 10, we will do dryland training at the school; times to be announced.
  • All skiers must submit the required physical and insurance paperwork, pay the sports fee; read and sign the code of conduct and coach-skier agreement (new this year); and acquire a Howelsen Hill Nordic Center pass (early season rates available soon).  Skiers missing these materials will not be allowed to ski after January 4.
  • All skiers will need skate and classic Nordic ski equipment; coach will provide recommendations; local season rentals available.
  • All levels and raw beginners welcome; qualified coaching staff and parent volunteers attend every practice.
  • Thursday practices will be focused on technique and race prep for those racing. Thursdays are an optional ski day for beginners.
  • SSMS Nordic skiers are invited to race in the following CHSSL events; these are not required.  The past 2 years our team traveled to events with the SSHS team.  Skiers can return with parents.  The Aspen and Carbondale events may require skier transportation.  All SSMS skiers encouraged to attend the home event on 2/9/19 in some capacity – race, volunteer, cheer.  Our end of season BBQ/party will follow the race.

 

Saturday, January 12th: Mass Start Classic at Spring Gulch in Carbondale. Hosted by CRMS and AVSC.

Saturday, January 19th: Wave Start Skate at Minturn hosted by Battle Mountain HS.

Saturday, January 26th: Same Day Pursuit at Snow Mountain Ranch hosted by Middle Park High School (Middle School is only a classic race)       

Saturday, February 2nd: Individual Start Classic at Aspen hosted by Aspen High School and AVSC

Saturday, February 9th: Individual Start Skate at Steamboat Touring Center
